Healing Through the Arts Workshop Series
An immersive, four-part workshop exploring the healing power of the arts through collaborative teaching and communal practice. Students will have the opportunity to think deeply and create artistically in a hands-on approach for each session.
Each part of the workshop series will dive deep into the following topics:
Part One: Theatre
Bronwen Carson will lead the acting workshop with openness and creativity without judgements, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and awareness. As a group, we will explore how the body, facial expressions and thoughts connect, convey and express our inner states and finding our voices as a vehicle for tension release, expression, and play. Improvisation and imagination are welcome and guided in this unique session.
Part Two: Cinema
A recent art form, we will discuss the evolution of moving images, cinematography and preserving history, as well as explore themes such as representation, cultural bridges and truth-telling. Instructed by Renee Fisher.
Part Three: Abstract Painting & Music
Join local artist, Lauren Blackwell, through a mindful session of painting with watercolors while listening to music. Relax, let go, and embrace play during this 1.5 hour long workshop where you will learn the basic ingredients of abstract painting as well as watercolor techniques to create something beautiful and memorable to call your own. All materials will be provided, no experience needed.
Part Four: Movement
Through meditation and dance we bring attention to the self and to others, build trust, find expression and belonging, and express vulnerability. We will explore themes such as mindfulness, freedom and connection. Instructed by Megan Motley-McCall.
Mission: To create and experience healing through engaging our community in the arts.
